The sculpture Nuclear Energy stands outside of the Regenstein Library at the University of Chicago. It was made by the sculptor Henry Moore from plaster pieces that were case in bronze and welded together to create the final piece.

Description

Nuclear Energy was commissioned by the University of Chicago to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the creation of the first nuclear reactor by a team of scientists, led by Enrico Fermi. The reactor was built under the original site of the University of Chicago's Stagg Field, and was first set in motion on December 2nd, 1942 at Chicago Pile 1. The sculpture was installed at The University of Chicago in 1967.
