Title

Phone Interview with Gerry Krzyzak, Vulcan Materials.

Subject

This subject of this interview is the concrete composition of Wolf Vostell's 1970 piece, Concrete traffic.

Description

Wolf Vostell's piece, Concrete Traffic was a came into being at an event in Chicago in February of 1970. At this event, concrete was poured into a frame built around a 1957 Cadillac DeVille. Once the concrete set, the frame was removed and Concrete Traffic stood on its own for the first time. In 2011 a conservation project began to prepare the sculpture for public view once again. The composition of the concrete proved to be an important piece of the puzzle, and many different materials experts were called on to help with the conservation project behind the re-installation of the piece. This re-installation project was titled Concrete Happenings and took place between Fall 2016 and Spring 2017.
